A Belfast fish restaurant aiming to inspire city centre shoppers to enjoy fish in a healthy way has been shortlisted for a UK - wide sustainability award.
Fish City - which is based on Ann Street in Belfast's busy shopping district - has already been named Northern Ireland's healthiest fish and chip shop at the National Fish and Chip Awards and went on to be named one of the top three healthy fish and chip shops in the UK.
And now it has been shortlisted for SeaFish's Good Catch Sustainable Seafood Award. It's the first time a Northern Ireland company has made the top three.
Owner John Lavery said: "To be shortlisted for this award gives us the recognition we have been working extremely hard to achieve. It is vitally important for Fish City to stand out from its competitors, as it is both a takeaway and a sit-in restaurant.
"We have taken a unique perspective on the industry and focus on developing what we have to offer.
"We ensure full food traceability working with local food and drink producers whenever possible, offering customers a menu which is flavoursome and healthy."
He added that Fish City was also the first fish and chip shop in the UK to be invited to become a corporate member of the Marine Conservation Society.
Sanjay Mitra from the Marine Conservation Society said: "We have been impressed with Fish City's commitment to serving sustainable seafood, which is so important to the health of our global fish stocks. They have been working closely with MCS and our Good Fish Guide to develop a new sustainable seafood policy."
