A Belfast city centre restaurant has claimed the top spot in Fry Magazine's ranking of the UK's finest fish and chip establishments
After conducting a comprehensive taste test of fish and chip shops across the UK, Fry Magazine unveiled its definitive list of the nation's top chippies and restaurants earlier this year - with a favourite from Belfast city centre clinching the much-coveted top spot.
Increasingly, shoppers, tourists and food lovers visiting Northern Ireland's vibrant capital are making a beeline for Fish City – a cherished local establishment that champions sustainably sourced food. The restaurant secured its place at the pinnacle of these esteemed rankings after scoring an impressive 96% from expert judges across all key assessment criteria.
Tucked away on Ann Street, Fish City is a celebrated seafood and fish and chip destination that takes pride in using locally sourced produce. This commitment to culinary excellence has earned it numerous accolades beyond this latest victory, including being named as Belfast's Best Eatery and Northern Ireland's Seafood Establishment of the Year.
One thrilled customer took to TripAdvisor to gush: "Really special fish and chips. Everything is so fresh, and we all said it was the best fish and chips ever. Wine is also delicious."
Another happy patron proclaimed that Fish City serves up "the real taste of fish and chips".
They commented: "It was a very nice experience to taste food with quality and quantity at a reasonable price. Seafood is very authentic in taste, especially the cod fish, which was fabulous. Very nice atmosphere, feels like high-standard service, and my family were delighted after visiting this place.", reported the Mirror.
Despite the family-run restaurant garnering such widespread praise, it's only been welcoming diners since 2013 rather than being an established institution spanning decades.
Nevertheless, its dedication to environmentally-friendly practices has won it rave reviews from local food lovers. The restaurant was actually named the UK's healthiest and most sustainable fish and chip shop.
Another customer described their experience as "exceptional", writing: "The fresh oysters-oh my word, they were off the charts and delicious with all the different dressings; the staff said they come from Carlingford. My husband really enjoyed his Thai ginger broth; it was full of fish and shellfish and very tropical.
"We weren't sure which dessert to go for, and our super friendly waitress recommended the sticky toffee pudding with whisky ice cream, and we enjoyed it so much."
With countless rave reviews pouring in for this neighbourhood gem, it's clear this accolade holds significant credibility.
