Our Commitment to Sustainability
At Fish City, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We were the first business in Northern Ireland to sign the Sustainable Fish Cities pledge and the first on the island of Ireland to achieve Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification, ensuring our seafood is responsibly sourced. We use renewable electricity, recycle our cooking oil into biofuel, and work with local suppliers within 50 miles whenever possible to reduce our carbon footprint. Our packaging is biodegradable or compostable, and we proudly hold Green Tourism Gold accreditation for our environmental efforts. Beyond our kitchen, we champion biodiversity through rooftop planting and pollinator habitats, and run an educational Kids Club to teach local schoolchildren about sustainable fishing and marine conservation. These initiatives, along with our community outreach and food donation partnerships, reflect our belief that great food and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
Why This Recognition Matters
Being shortlisted for the Good Food Ireland Sustainability Award is more than an accolade: it affirms that our daily efforts—from sourcing to waste reduction, from community education to biodiversity—are making a difference. It’s validation that sustainable, responsible seafood dining is achievable and appreciated.
It also helps raise the profile of Belfast, Northern Ireland, and the wider coastal food communities, showing that world-class sustainability and hospitality are alive and thriving on this island.
We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and even more excited about where we're headed. We thank all our staff, partners, suppliers, and customers for their roles in this journey. We’d also like to thank the Good Food Ireland Awards for celebrating sustainable practices in Irish food and hospitality.
